Awwww.......... today met this guy called leon...he's like p4...and he's so cool!....ahhas....... he's so cute!...he wears an ankle sock....wears a cool shoe...has a damn cool hairstyle!!....im gonna look for him everyday man...lols!....ohmygawd!!! he's so cute!!!!.....GO LEON!!! WO YONG YUAN ZHI CHI NI!!!ahhas....wah...today went to east spring pri. schl.....to do some chemistry trail thingy....i went with dianna and mdm tan and ms chiam and some 6/6 guys:: yang wui, wei yan, david, andreas and kendrick(not sure if i spelt correctly...lols... anw...erms...yupps....we went there...and like...had to do some crime scene investigation(csi) thingy....its like...quite fun la...but....me and diann like...didnt understand a thing....rite diann?...lols...ahhas....its like damn complicated lors...do u noe wads effervescence?....its erms...the effect of the release of carbon dioxide(gases)...do u noe wads sodium bicarbonate?....wad bout hydrochloric acid?....sodium chloride?...sodium chloride is salt...lols....erms.... sodium bicarbonate + hydrochloric acid = alkaline ...lols.....u understand a thing?...i mean if i didnt explain?....me too!....i dont!....now....i still dun reli understand...lols...anw...we hav to memorise a script cause we are like...chosen to represent our schl and like...go and teach ppl from other schls wad is everything lar...so...u wanna see the script?....okok....i'll show u...1.At this station we use qualitative analysis to understand more about samples found at the crime scene or associated with suspects.
(Qualitative analysis is used to separate and detect cations and anions in a sample substance) In layman terms we mean that we find out what a compound is made of.
2. We will not use quantitative analysis which is : chemical determination of the amounts or proportions of constituents in a substance. In layman terms we mean find out exactly how much of each kind of substance go to make up the compound.
3. In the mouth of the deceased we found a slippery milky liquid.(sample1)
In the medicine bottle of the deceased we found a white powdery substance(sample 2)In the pocket of the maid we found another white powdery substance.(sample3) …Common Salt or Sodium Chlloride
In the home of George the driver we also found the slippery milky liquid.(sample 4)
4. Allow students to feel the Sodium Hydroxide ..Na OH ( soapy) allow them to test it with red litmus paper. (should turn blue.)
This tells us that the (sample 1) is a soluble base called an alkali. The alkali feels soapy because it forms soap using the fat/oil on our skin.
5.With sample 2, add some dilute acid ..HCl .. ask students to observe ..Explain that bubbles of gas are emitted this is called effervescence.(escape of gas from a solution in water.)
In another test tube you can try to dissolve some of sample 2 in a little water. We find that it is slightly soluble. In secondary school this test would be tested in lime water which will turn chalky to prove that it is carbon dioxide.
This shows that the chemical is some kind of carbonate which gives out carbon dioxide with acid.
You can ask them to test the chemical with red litmus paper which should turn blue since a carbonate is a base.
After adding a little acid, the blue turns purple( not acid and not base)
As we add more acid the blue litmus turns red.
Sample 3 can be tasted by the students.
Sample 4 has the same feel and reacts in the same way to litmus as sample 1 because they are both Sodium Hydroxide or Caustic Soda which killed John.
Notes : electrolytes is a "medical/scientific" term for compound that breaks down in water into charged particles.
Reagent is a substance used in a chemical reaction to detect, analyze, or produce another substancepH value on a scale from 0 to 14 of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution (where 7 is neutral and greater than 7 is more basic and less than 7 is more acidic);
solubility : A measure of how much of a given substance will dissolve in a liquid. Usually measured in weight per unit volume.
H+ ionsAcid: A solution that has an excess of H+ ions. It comes from the Latin word acidus that means "sharp". Base: A solution that has an excess of OH- ions. Another word for base is alkali.did u understand a thing?....me neither...lols...ooh!...dianna also wrote this...ahhas...lols...okok....next time i will post bout mie perth trip:)....igtg....bye....c ya!....lols....[*Faith*]
